I'll have to look for the new oreo pack when I pick up my free Sainsbury's bag for life. That's a much better price than the snack packs they sell.

Dunkin Donuts?  But "You can't buy em in a grocery store"  ;D

I miss Cheezits and Triscits (sp?). Mum mailed me three massive bags of Airheads a few months back...they lasted less than a week. :D

So the shopping carts at Asda this morning had advertisements for Oreos, but did they have oreos in the store??? No. But they did have Haagen Daz for £2.50, so now I have 5 pints of Haagen Daz!

My ASDA had a HUGE display of Oreos on Friday at the end of the biscuit aisle, of the snack packs, the tubs, and those long sleeves of them, all 2 for £1.

Think I'd rather have this than oreos and reeses!

i've never really liked Oreos... i dont like the way the black bits stick between teeth!

I could easily eat the Double Stuff creme, though, and leave the black biscuity bits.  :)

ME TOO!  ;D

I tried the ones in the single sleeve today - they're okay, but they still taste slightly off - slighty stale, like those fake Oreo Hydrox things.  Ah, well.  I'll save my Oreo appetite for Double Stuffs!

I read somewhere a while back that the UK oreos are made without trans fats, unlike in the U.S. I wonder if they tasted stale to you cause trans fats have some kind of preservative powers and whatever they are substituting goes stale faster. BTW, I think I read it on straightdope.com but it could have been elsewhere.

In the article the spokeswoman said that the trans fats made a difference to the taste and that's why they leave them in. If they tasted off to you, maybe that's true.

Gimme my trans fats, damnit!  >:(

Seriously, though - I know preservative are BAD NEWS OMG, but I'm getting really sick of having to throw out all sorts of food because it spoils in two days.  I can't even eat a small loaf of bread before it goes moldy!

Couldn't find the original article (and no wonder, I read it over four years ago, probably) but found this:

http://www.chow.com/digest/1592

The writer describes the cookie as being "strangely crispy yet also soggy." Is that what your impression was?

Well then, if I ever come to visit you, I'll bring some Double Stuff Oreos and I'll eat all the cookie parts (the best bit!) and let you have the creme. ;D

They don't have any trans fats in the U.S. ones either. http://www.nabiscoworld.com/Brands/ProductInformation.aspx?BrandKey=oreo&Site=1&Product=4400000820 Lots of regular fat though. :P

Yeah they removed the trans fat from the U.S. ones in 2006 I believe. And they havent had any in the U.K. version since around 2004.

Seinsbury's refused to carry them cause they refused to carry anything with trans fats. Maybe the rest of the supermarkets followed suit.

But to get back to the topic, I searched for Oreos everywhere my first year here so I'm really happy they're for sale somewhere again! Hooray.
