Dar, do you want me to give them a little tickle? I think getting registered with a GP is super important so I'm willing to send them a friendly "colleague to colleague" email if you like....

Sorry you've had so much trouble.  I was able to just walk in to the office and fill out the registration form.  I was registered in just a few moments.  Of course I live in a city centre and there are a lot of immigrants here, maybe they are more used to us.

I live in a small town and registered without any problems.  I think its more to do with knowledge than anything.

Hope you get everything sorted Dar!

Dar,

Any luck today?
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

We went to get registered today.  I took everything with me, but, they still questioned my address documents as too early.  Ummm, another person in your practice said I didn't need to show six months.  Arg.  So, they will have to "call their bloke in Northamptonshire" to make sure that I have to PAY for service!  :o

I told them that I didn't and even handed them the printouts I had with me that were from the Department of Health and the NHS and an email from the lady Anne put me in contact with.  They waved them away and said that they will have to call him.  I hope he has his head on straight.  But, they will probably get it all messed up considering they didn't take copies of my visa or of my marriage certificate.

Now what do I do?

Ask for the name of the guy they are calling and call him yourself.

Oh wow, Dar. How completely annoying.

Would it be possible to have the woman who Anne put you in touch with call this surgery directly? Or perhaps can they give you the name of this 'bloke' in Northamptonshire, so you can speak with him directly.

I'm sorry you are having such trouble.

I think that's what I'd say too - ring her up and ask if she can act as a liaison for you. Was her direct line on that email I forwarded to you? This is beyond ridiculous. Either that or ring the surgery and ask to speak to the practice manager. Though it sounds as though they're all idiots in the office.  >:(

They should've figured this out after you called the first time.  Its really ridiculous.  IMO its their job to make the effort to find out if they can treat you.

I will ring her later today.  I just tried a couple minutes ago and then the IT folks at work announced that they are working on the phones.  Arg!

How frustrating!! I really hope that everything gets sorted for you.

I know it is a terrible generalisation, but I've found GP reception staff to be some of the rudest, most unhelpful people I've ever encountered!! I hope that they will finally get some sense and register to you as you're entitled to!

I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

I normally like my GP's receptionists. However, yesterday I had to leave work early for a doctor's appointment. I arrived about five minutes late, which I didn't think was a big deal since I normally have to spend more than five minutes in the waiting area anyway.

When you get to the office, you have to enter your gender and date of birth onto a touch screen, and a message comes up saying "You have an appointment with Dr. X at x:xx (time). Please take a seat in the waiting area.)

So I entered my info on the screen and it came up that I didn't have an appointment. I went to the receptionist and told her I'd made an appointment that morning. She then looked up my details, and said to me,  as if she was speaking to a naughty child, "That's because your late!"

I'm a grown woman; nobody should speak to me that way.

Of course, I had to wait 20 minutes to see a doctor anyway.
