'Had Away, Gan On': What does this mean?
« on: February 28, 2008, 01:20:05 PM »
I heard a song by Jez Lowe today called 'Had Away, Gan on'.

For those of you in Newcastle, what does that phrase mean?

Hadaway means go away/get away from me/get out of here.  Gan is go, so go on.

Ahhh, Geordies!! ;D
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Could be, but could literally mean "get away"......as in "Hadaway 'n' shite"
"We don't want our chocolate to get cheesy!"

Thanks! That makes sense.

By the way, I like Jez Lowe (after having stumbled upon him). Any other fans?

'Hadaway 'n' Shite' = the standard response when my Geordie mate tries to tell me that Kevin Keegan is a good manager...
