London Book Club - 15 April
« on: March 02, 2008, 11:04:53 AM »
Many thanks to everyone who participated in our first book club meeting.  It was a great success and the discussion was illuminating.  I believe we have the beginning of strong and sustainable club!

At the request of some of you who were unable to make the first meeting, we are scheduling the next Book Club discussion for Tuesday, 15 April at 19:00.  The book will be A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini.

The book looks to be fascinating and many thanks to Courtney for suggesting it.

We will decide a meeting place later, as we determine how many will be coming.  Given the time of the meeting, this will be a dinner/discussion.

We hope the next meeting gives you a reason to look forward to 15 April for a change! ;D

I've just bought a copy of the book on eBay (Hounslow libraries already have 52 people ahead of me with reservations for the book!) - really looking forward to the next book club meet-up and dinner.

I got it today at WH Smith.  Mr. Karrit and I were talking about going away for Easter weekend.  Someplace quiet, were we can go for walks with the dog and spend time reading, hopefully by a fireplace.  Of course, this book is going with me!

Courtney, what was the name of the website you mentioned yesterday?  The one where you can trade books?

As long as nothing comes up between now and then, I'll be there. Had a great time on Saturday and am really looking forward to the next meet-up. Can't wait to get started on the book!

I'll put in my suggestion for a restaurant: Mestizo is located near Euston and has EXCELLENT Mexican food. I know you all went out for Mexican this last time, but as I understand it no one seems to have a problem having another great Mexican meal. You can check it out at www.mestizomx.com. It's just an idea, and I'm not sure if they have a private room, but I can highly recommend the food!

Since we seem to be a group that has a passion for Mexican food, I have taken Blue_Iris's suggestion and Darwinsdisciple's enthusiastic support for Mestizo and have booked a table for our next meeting.  The menu will be a la carte, so we are not restricted to a group menu.  They don't do individual bills, so they suggested that we opt for the food only tab for the group, with individuials paying for your own drinks at the bar, to keep things simple.  I am also assured that there is a good, satisfying range of options for vegetarians.

Seems like everything is all set for the next meeting.  To recap, the meeting is 15 April at 7:00pm at Mestizo.  The book is  "A Thousand Splendid Suns."  I look forward to seeing everyone again, meeting new faces, good food and an interesting and stimulating discussion! [smiley=book.gif]

Just want to pipe in and give another thumbs-up for Mestizo.  I go there for lunch quite often and it's fabulous!

Sorry, not interested in the book club thing, though - not my cup of tea.
