Changing my name back
« on: March 04, 2008, 02:56:02 PM »
Hi all,
Hopefully someone has an answer for me, because I am hopelessly lost!  I got married in 1999 and moved here permanently.  I still have only my ILR and not citizenship although I qualify (mainly because I'm lazy and haven't gotten around to it...)  but anyway...

My husband and I have separated, I am staying here, but really want to change my name back to my maiden name. I know I can do it via deed poll for the UK, but what about my US passport?  Do I have to wait until my divorce is final before I can change my name back?

For your US passport, check the Embassy website at:

You don't need a deed poll to change back to your maiden name in the UK.  You just start using it again.
