Not so much making a statement as just not wanting to subject myself to that drivel again.  :o

No offense to anyone who actually liked the epilogue.  I just personally felt it was crap.

Oh, no, you're totally right - it was complete and utter crap.  In fact, I may have to come down and see the last film with you - we can stand up and walk out together (and then sneak back in for the credits)!  ;D

What can I say?  I'm a visionary.  ;D

I never doubted it for a second!

How would you have ended the novel then, if you were JK?  Or no epilogue at all?  To be honest, I cant remember it...a scene at a train station vaguely comes to mind...

No epilogue whatsoever!  I didn't feel that the story was unfinished in any way - this was the story of Harry's school years, first and foremost, and those were over.

I think she (JK) must struggle to let go of those characters. I saw her interviewed over Christmas and she still said she couldnt imagine not writing more books later...

Or did she write the epilogue so that fanfiction writers out there wouldn't beat her to it???

I'd say she's a bit late there - considering I've been aware of HP fanfic since 2000!  ;D

That epilogue?  Reads like some of the worst fanfic I've ever encountered.

I'd have not done an Epilogue at all.  Like Meg said, these were the stories of Harry's school years.

Speaking as a fanfic writer myself (though not in the HP fandom), that Epilogue reads like the worst fanfic I've ever seen (and believe me I've seen some very badly written fic!)

The epilogue was pants but I feel it was necessary.  They are kids books after all and kids usually like a happy ending and a conclusion to a story.  I don't think there's any doubt it will be in the movie too, audiences would pretty much demand it (case in point, the cheesy extra ending tacked on to the US version of Pride and Prejudice)

Hmm.  I'll reserve judgement until the longer one is released.

Agreed. My sister thinks the P & P ending is the most wonderful thing in history. I think it's nauseating...
