Question for American Social Workers who moved to UK

I'm curious.  For the Social Workers who had job offers lined up before they moved did your future employer offer any moving assistance? i.e. relocation costs, assistance in finding a place to live, assistance with visa filing?

My husband is a Social Worker and the local authority he works for paid the costs for both of our visas. They also gave him 500 GBP for relocation costs which wasn't near enough, but  we liked the fact that he wasn't required to stay with them for a certain amount of time. I've heard that other local authorities pay more for relocation, but they require you to pay it back if you leave the job within two years.

They didn't help with finding a place to live, but they did paid for him to stay in a hotel for the first two weeks after he arrived. I hope that's helpful.

This will depend on your employer and type of visa you will be using. In the end, I found a full time local authority job through an agency. They paid for the work permit costs and gave me £1500 for the settling allowance. My agency arranged a taxi from the airport and found a B&B that I paid for through the allowance. I found my own flat.

I've heard all sorts of packages that were waaaay better than mine.

My advice is to get whatever agreement you arrange in writing!!
