Travelling to the US via Amsterdam
« on: March 22, 2008, 07:46:35 AM »
Hey guys, just a quick q!

My husband and I are making a visit back to the US at the end of April, and our route goes through Amsterdam before it lands in the US. I asked my husband because he's flown the route before, but he can't remember:

Does your passport get stamped in Amsterdam at all since it's a connecting flight? I'm particularly wondering for the flight back, so I know if I get stamped coming back into the UK as well. I want to know if I need to be prepared to track down an IO at the airport coming back into the UK so I don't have problems with a missing entry stamp later (plus, we're flying into a very small airport back from Amsterdam, so I don't know how many IOs will even be there! -- We're flying from/to Humberside).

Thanks!

You should contact IO's at Humberside before you fly to let them know that you will need to clear immigration, irresepctive of whether or not you get stamped at Amsterdam.

But you will get stamped there if you are changing terminals or go landside at all.

And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

I always travel through Amsterdam and it isn't a problem. You won't have to go through immigration if it is just a standard connection. Your plan will land, and you just need to go find your new gate.

Before boarding the plane all the passengers will need to line up and you'll have to speak to a number of security officers. They just ask where you're going and why, but they don't stamp your passport. Once you talk to them there is an x-ray machine for your carry on stuff to go through and gate waiting area on the other side. It sounds like an ars* on but they are quite efficient and friendly.
I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

I've traveled through Amsterdam several times and my passport got stamped there, and stamped again when I landed in UK. I have almost as many stamps from Amsterdam as the UK, but I've never been anywhere in Amsterdam other than the airport!

Weird, I've NEVER been stamped going thru Amsterdam airport and I've done it 6 times. The plane landed, I followed the signs for connecting flights, and I was fine. I think if you go the other way and take the route out of the airport bit, then you go thru immigration...but that's funny people had different experiences! I've only been questioned at Amsterdam going TO the USA and it was by American ppl...hmmm maybe best to contact airport anyway?
