Six months is up...do I have to jump?
« on: March 24, 2008, 04:01:47 PM »
Didn't there used to be a helpful "PETS scheme for dummies" thread stickied to the top here? I hate asking stupid questions.

My cats passed their six months of home quarantine in February. I had hoped to have sold my house by then, but basically ha ha on that idea. I'm probably several months away, anyway. Do I have to go ahead and get the the "third country official veterinary certificate" as soon as they're eligible? Or do I just keep up on their rabies vaccinations (please God I'm not still here in August when they're due next) and get the certificate when I know my travel date?

I understand per the DEFRA site that it's only good for four months once I get it, so...hostages to fortune and all that.

Ah, thanks. One less thing to worry about right now.

For some reason, I find the DEFRA website really hard to follow. I had to contact them for something (my vet wasn't sure they'd approve of the brand of vaccine she used -- the Japanese apparently didn't), and they were really prompt and helpful by email. And that was right in the middle of the last foot-and-mouth outbreak.

But they website? Somehow, the information just slides right off my brain.

I thought it was stickied too, but it's not.  :(

Ahhhh...that's better. Thanks.

I worry about the cats' paperwork more than my own.

you definitely just keep up with the vaccines. I know, I did the blood test years before we actually left!

For future reference, you can always PM me with Defra questions.  I actually work for the team that replies to public e-mail enquiries, so odds are that I either already know the answer or can find it really easily!! :-D

We have a 15-working-day standard, but I personally always try and respond to e-mails as soon as they show on the system.  Some parts of the website are better than others, definitely.
