100th anniversary of Anne of Green Gables
« on: March 29, 2008, 11:27:05 AM »
Any other Anne fans here?

The Guardian has a feature article by Margaret Atwood celebrating the 100th anniversary of the publication.

I loved the mini series, but never even tried to read the books.  Something I should remedy I think.

Definitely! Was that the Canadian production you saw, the one with Megan Follows?

I haven't read the books but I did see a Japanese cartoon version of it once.  I loved it.

Yes, loved it and I loved Megan Follows when I was a kid. She was in some tv movie about a girl who played hockey on a boy's team.  I loved that movie.

I was obsessed with it as a kid.  Still love the stories and dream of visiting PEI  :)
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.

I adored those books and the tv series growing up.. all the characters were so heartfelt, and I loved it when she hit the slate over Gilberts head! and the raspberry cordial bit!!

Raising hand!

I love AnnE (with an "E")!  A gal pal and I would have Anne marathons and watch all of the movies in one day, order in food, drink some cordial (we were in our mid-20's when we discovered Anne).  To this day, we still quote many lines (or what we remember of them). One in particular, when either of us are busy with housework, "There are so many responsibilities when one is keeping house."

"How would you like it if someone called you fat? or ugly? or a sour old gossip?!"  OMG that scene gets me every time!  Loved Marilla and Matthew, really every single character.

I later read the books and they were just as enjoyable.

I loved the books, but only managed to get through the first five.  I just couldn't bring myself to read the rest.  Perhaps one of these days I'll try again.

My grandmother was a HUGE fan of the books and dragged my grandfather, mom and uncle to PEI for a vacation back in the 50's.  Hee!

Megan Follows (technically) went to my high school!  I think she physically attended for only a few days, but I did bump into her once or twice.  It was a huge deal because it was right after the miniseries aired.

I read a few of the books and loved them.

I loved the miniseries, I watched everytime it was on TV.

Yes, loved it and I loved Megan Follows when I was a kid. She was in some tv movie about a girl who played hockey on a boy's team.  I loved that movie.

I loved that movie as well, It was called Hockey Night.  I was in love with Yannick Bisson for years after that. (The lead male)

Hey, he was cute  :)

More embarassing....I've never gotten over the disappointment of not having been born a redhead and for years dyed it (love of red hair originally stemming from but not limited to love of books).
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.
