I love the Anne books!  Addicted to the books and mini-series since I was little.

I think I have been through the series at least 3 times, some books more!

Did any of you see ever the BBC series of Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea? It was made in the 70s and that's always how I see her in my head when I read the books.

ooo... no. I would love to see the BBC's version as many of us can't imagine anyone other than Megan Follows as Anne. I wonder if it's still available out there somewhere?

There are some clips on YouTube from the second series and I think it's on DVD as well. As far as I know the first series is not available because the BBC destroyed the tapes.  :(

I was another one horribly obsessed with Anne when I was younger.  Watched all the Canadian productions (owned multiple versions of the tapes because I wore them out), and read all the books at least once.  I think I read them twice through, but I can't remember.  I dreamed of going to PEI, and still would like to see it one day.  *sigh* childhood memories.

Oh I loved Anne of Green Gables.  I was a little girl who loved to read - how could I not love those books?  :)

I read every single AOGG novel in existence at least twice, some possibly three times.  When I was about 9 or 10 I think, but can't remember exactly.  I knew the layout of the house, the farm, the village, you name it.

On a whim, I got the DVD from last year's theatrical production and watched it with my family.  They loved it loved it loved it.

Really?  This is horribly sexist of me, but it never occurred to me that boys might read it (or enjoy it so much!).  I love that you liked it so much!   [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

I LOVED these books!!!!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Garry, that made my night to read that.  Too funny.  I've known a couple men who would admit to having watched the movies and been okay with them, but that took guts.  ;)

Awwww.  How kind!

Actually my favorite literary herioine ultimately turned out to be Natasha Rostova - it's funny how closely linked the two characters are: AOGG and Natasha...  Staggering story too.  Tracing her footsteps from Moscow to Otradnoe and back was a lot more rigorous and demanding than the leisurely drive through PEI and the other Maritimes.

If you visit PEI tho', do it in early September so as to take in the leaves.

Thanks for the tip.  I've been wanting to take my husband to New England in autumn, so maybe I could do the two together.  Ahh....now I just need money and I'd be set!  :)
