Any ideas for family holidays with 3yr and 4yr old..

Looking for some ideas for holidays in late June, for my husband, myself and my two children.  We love self catering, ideally would love Greece but it looks abit too expensive on our budget at the moment.  Had thought of Spain as the flights are cheap, went to southern France last year (nice but our language skills aren't that great and we found it quite hard!).  Wouldn't mind seeing more of England, Wales, Scotland (love Devon and Cornwall - never been to Scotland) but ideally want somewhere for the kids so they can play on the beach and we can take in some historical sights...  Plus my US MIL might be visiting around the same time. 

Any recommendations on a budget, family friendly holiday!

Appreciate any ideas! 

Pembrokeshire and Cornwall have some lovely beach-y self-catering places! If beaches are your thing, of course.

Places we've been that the kids have loved-Brittanny, Mallorca(not the built up bit around Palma but the other side), Cornwall, Tenby, and we had the loveliest time last summer in Devon(Brixham).  Scotland's nice but you can't count on the weather.

Thanks for the ideas, Mindy, how was Mallorca and Brittany?  do you remember what areas you went to, both look lovely and would be easy to get too. Did you drive in Mallorca?

No, we flew to Mallorca.  It was gorgeous.  We rented a car when we were there.  Beaches were nice, weather was beautiful and the resturants welcome children late in the evening.

We ferried to Brittany adn then drove.  It takes a while to get there but the sun and beaches are lovely.  We did Eurocamp near Benodet. http://www.eurocamp.co.uk/index.cfm?fuseaction=Campsites.ResortOverView&ver=1&Mastercode=130 There are other companies operating out of the same campground so you can search around for better deals.

in a caravan.  The IOW has nice beaches and a pier at Sandown. 
We go for a long weekend once a year. 
Even though they didn't play on the beach we loved going to Oban in Scotland this past  August.  In fact we are going back this year.
