hey dar i dont know if you will have time, but how about a side trip to haworth near bradford, the bronte sisters were from there, and there are some great pubs that do lunches, the black bull and the sun to name 2, and of course the fabulous history and views are worth the trip alone  ;D
its a far better thing i do than i have ever done

Hi Dar,

I just saw this....if you need to know some guesthouses with parking, I know a few good ones.  Just PM me.  I would say go ahead, leave your car at our house and use public transport, but unfortunately, we've had a few incidents lately.  Hope you have a good time with your mom while you are here.

Thanks for the tips everyone!  They are really helpful!  I am so excited about going!  Less than a month until I see my mom and see York!  YAY!

One more wee tip, Dar... you (and I think someone else) used the word 'quaint', and you should probably know that that word is considered to be a bit condescending.  Somehow it sound REALLY condescending when it trips off American lips!  ;)  I know you didn't mean it like that, but... maybe want to use another word in future!   :)

It was probably me who used the term.  In fact, it was almost certainly me.   :(

Anyway Dar, FYI on one of the pubs I recommended, the Old White Swan, we ate there today, and I don't know if it was just off, or what, but the food was not good.  So maybe skip that one.  I know you're overloaded probably with suggestions at this point, but I know you're a medieval fan.  Museum gardens are fab, with the ruins of an abbey.  Also, if Kings Manor is open, it's fun.  It's part of Uni. of York, so it may not be open to the public.  It's fantastic though, and old hunting lodge from the late 1400s.  I took a class in there and it was very cool.  But, as I said, I'm sure you're overloaded with ideas to try to get into 2 days.   ;)

Ok, Old White Swan, we shall skip it!  I will definitely make sure we get to see the museum gardens as they sound lovely!  I will look into Kings Manor.  You never know, we might get lucky!

I used "quaint" as well.  Never knew it was condescending. My husband has described local villages as quaint and he is British, so, I guess I never thought about it.  :-\\\\

Yes and should never be said out loud in the Cotswolds or Lake District. That's grounds for immediate removal from the UK.  ;)

Yes and should never be said out loud in the Cotswolds ...

I've spent more than my fair share of time in the Cotswolds (with English people) and heard plenty of 'quaints'. Never, ever noticed it being an issue.  :) Although it was probably said more often by older people.
