Economic Stimulus Payment Notice
« on: April 02, 2008, 11:50:15 PM »
Has anyone else gotten one of these?

Its a letter explaining the conditions for the stimulus payments...

Judging by the letter it seems like those of us living in the UK are eligible as long as we've made over $3,000 (qualifying income is earned income, Social Security benefits, and certain veterans' payments).

There's a nice little chart on it letting you determine your stimulus payments...  They say they'll send you a notification in the post before issuing a check once you've filed a 2007 tax return.

I got one...but I live in Florida. Its very...stimulating! :-) Its definitely going straight into the "moving fund" pot though...so perhaps not as stimulating as the US Gov anticipated (not for us anyway).

does it say anything about foreign earned income?
Now a triple citizen!

Student visa 9/06-->Int'l Grad Scheme 1/08-->FLR(M) 7/08-->ILR 6/10-->British citizenship 12/12

It doesn't specify anything on Foreign Earned Income, but I'm assuming it would fall under Zero Net Income Tax Liability, which if you've earned over $3,000 its saying for a single individual you're looking at $300 ($600 if filing jointly), under $3,000 you're looking at nothing.

In the text of the letter itself it states that anyone filing a 1040 (as long as its not a 1040NR, 1040NR-EZ, 1040-PR or 1040-SS) is eligible.   :)

So, judging by that I'm assuming foreign earned income still qualifies for the stimulus.

I got a letter too, but I probably wont file my 1040 until next month.
I can't imagine I would qualify for anything since I haven't paid Federal tax in over 5 years :(
Good things come to those who wait...a really long time.

I don't know with this, because it doesn't state that you had to pay your tax to the government, just file a tax return...   :-\\\\  We'll just have to wait & see I guess.   :P

Figures that the only year I had no reportable US income is the year they're giving out checks.  :P

Either way I'm waiting 'til Ellie's registered with the Embassy & has her SS #...  At least we don't have to do anything else to get the money.  Yay no additional forms!   :P

I received one as well, but I don't hold high hopes we'll actually see the money.

When I filed, I got a message saying I didn't qualify.  We had less than $3,000 earned in the US before we moved in January, and they didn't consider our foreign earned income apparently.  I would love this to be wrong and have a check turn up anyway   :-\\\\
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.
