Back in Novemeber there was an article on the BBC news and they said that with so many people going to the States to shop right now the customs people could not possibly stop them all and that they were basically just letting people go through without being checked as they were concentrating on the people bringing in illegal contriband and also looking for people bring back stuff to sell.  They also said that if you did get stopped it was still cheaper to buy in the States.

I came back from the States at Thanksgiving with two very full suitcases and there was not a customs person in sight.

haha Pebs I can see why you would be a little nervous.  Glad to see the little ones are finally pulling their weight!

I was actually pretty nervous when I came back from the states after Easter.  I easily had over $1000 worth of new goods in my bags.  I was carrying back all sorts of stuff for the wedding, including bulk paper goods and lots of summer clothes and wedding gifts.  I just took a risk and went through the "nothing to declare" part of customs.  Luckily, I didn't get stopped.

I've actually never declared at UK customs - I thought you only had to declare if the goods you were bringing back were not for resale or commercial use, not for personal use!  ???

Jeeze, we are planning to do mega shopping next week (just clothes and the like), it would have never even crossed my mind to declare my shopping.
I always use the Nothing to Declare channel and there are hardly ever any agents in sight.
Every now and again, I will see someone that has been stopped and their whole suitcase is open and being checked. And I once saw a couple that had about 10 bottles of alcohol so you know they got into trouble.
Good things come to those who wait...a really long time.
