need to send US $, running into problems
« on: April 14, 2008, 10:36:56 PM »
Ok, so basically, I have to file something through a court in the US, and of course the court is a bit...behind the times, can't accept credit/debit cards over the phone or online, can't take one of our checks, I don't believe I can pay with travelers checks, and I don't feel comfortable sending cash. I dont have anyone I can trust in the US to get a MO and send it as I tried that once before and it got me absolutely nowhere, and almost in trouble.

Can someone tell me there IS an option aside from cash in an envelope and signed for? I don't live in london, or anywhere nearby, so maybe that IS my only option....you'd think there would be some sort of way to do these things...

Could you use paypal or something like that? mad what type of place does not use credit cards (accept them) or cheques, do you have an account in the US still could you not transfer the money into it and do an American cheque?.

The only other option is to have a holiday and pay it whilst your there.

What a pain for you sorry we can't be of anymore help, it seems going in person is the only option they want you to have.

Indy
I hope we get better weather with the new year I am getting rained out.

Good luck to everyone with respective visa applications.

Can you send an international money order?

From Wikipedia:  An international money order is very similar in many aspects to a regular money order except that it can be used to make payments abroad. With it, a buyer can easily pay a seller for goods or services if he or she resides in another country. International money orders are often issued by a buyer's bank and bought in the currency that the seller accepts. International money orders are thought to be safer than sending currency through the post because there are various forms of identification required to cash an international money order, often including a signature and a form of photo identification.

I had to send some money to the US to settle an account a couple of weeks ago and I ended up going to my bank and getting a international banker's draft. It wasn't the cheapest thing (£20 for the privilege at HSBC) but it had to be done and it was the only method we could agree on. Your bank probably does this as well and it may not be as expensive as my bank was.

A banker's draft is fine for the one-off payment.

If you get the receiving bank's details, you can make a CHAPS payment.  It clears on the same day, no muss no fuss.

If you can let the funds float for 3 working days, then BACS is fine also.
