Me too! Right now I am still researching and looking for ideas, suitable substitutions for a fussy, eater. I need ideas and suggestions.  I am also no whizz  in the kitchen, so I won't be the star of made up recipes!

I tend not to want to do breakfast as well, which is a big part of it, so I plan to get up half an hour earlier every morning so that I can build in breakfast and ensure I have left plenty of time to walk to work ( couple of miles along the seafront) and back every day.

Sara- I don't know where I got the impression, but I felt you would not be moderating anymore, hence my panic at your disappearance- I am glad to hear otherwise, this place wouldn't be the same without you!

I like the idea of a weekly thread (great idea), because I know I will struggle with veggies for example and I don't want to go wholly Atkins etc.

Have a great new year all and lets hope next year will be even better :)

Sheril.

I just found a great low carb resource here :

http://www.low-carb.org.uk/main.htm

with a Brit slant on it, I find the American boards too overwhelming with all the acronyms and products we don't get over here, so I hope this is helpful.

BTW- My book came within 2 days, perfect condition and cost only 1 p - Bargain!

Sigh... I'm likely to go back on the South Beach Diet after this past festive season  :\\\'(

I think it would be great to do a weekly thread so we can support each other's efforts!

That's how I felt when I read it....too much...I donated the book to charity (and I had paid full price for it!).

I prefer Atkins, even though it's more restrictive, it's easy to count 20 carbs a day for the first two weeks.  And then 30, etc.

I always have great success with low carbing. I have to start up again since I gained a lot of baby weight. I usually eat a lot of chicken, turkey and cooked vegies. For snacks I make sugar free jello with whipped cream and also keep cheese string snacks and nuts around for late night snacks.
Also, use Splenda as a sugar sub. Its great!

It certainly is heavy going! I agree with the OP who said Atkins is probably easier to follow, albeit more restrictive.  I think I am going to concentrate on cutting out the bread/anything processed to begin with, then I will worry about "net carbs" and all that malarkey!  :-\\\\

Pebbles- you sound like you know what you are doing! - have you any other tips for us that you like to rely on? Or does anyone have a day's worth of menu's for example, I think that would help us a lot.

That's pretty much what im going to do too... cut out bread, potatoes & sugar to start with, then see how i go from there.  That book is just a bit much for me!

I did low carbing several years ago and it was pretty easy to do. I've moved to more of a whole-foods lifestyle now and am steadily getting closer to being vegan (which is a plant-based only diet...a vegetarian who won't eat anything that comes from an animal...).

I think if you do it right, low carbing can be quite good. Eat plenty of veg and drink lots of water, be sensible. Don't just eat bacon and pork rinds! haha

My brother lost tons eating just fatty, meaty foods. He stayed thin for about ten minutes and now he has gained it all back and then some!

Just wanted to say that I've been on a low-carb (feels like NO carb) diet for the last 3.5 weeks and I've lost 12 pounds and inches....we'll see!  I didn't have anything bad during the holidays either. Talk about willpower! My hubby is currently munching through a bag of crisps hehe
