You don't even need to be in a rural area to benefit from wild foods.  I've picked blackberries (maybe they were actually called something else, but looked and tasted like blackberries) since I was a kid in Philadelphia alongside the train tracks in my old neighborhood and more recently in suburban New Jersey alongside the road on the way to my music lesson.  (Also have picked berries in Cornwall and Ireland and N. Ireland.)

Also our neighbors when I was a kid had a plum tree and another neighbor had a cherry tree though they were sour cherries.

Oh, and last summer my hubby and I picked the tiniest strawberries ever (fairy strawberries!) when we were in Ireland.

You are right indeed!  As a kid I didn't think about that, but luckily I didn't get sick but probably could have...

I just heard that some friends of mine picked ramsons and sold them for a fortune at the farmers' market in Cardiff!! Those crazy city folk will pay for anything if you tell them it's organic!  :P ;D
