Barefoot Contessa
« on: April 26, 2008, 09:08:51 PM »
So I am totally loving the Barefoot Contessa on UKTV Food every evening. I set a series link on my V+ box and watch it everyday. She has no personality, but I find her Long Island Accent strangely conforting (like my Mothers, only without the nagging.)

So, she makes lots of cakes. I like to make lots of cakes. Thats a good thing. However, She always has the SOFTEST butter. For some reason, I can buy my butter, leave it out in the kitchen overnight...and its still hard as a rock. The only way I can get my butter to be soft is to stick it in the microwave. Am I missing a trick here?

Anyone else?

My BIL got himself one of these (or a knock-off of it):

we watch this when there's nothing better on... i do think some of her food looks very nice, but she herself is just awful.  We poke fun at her fake, insincere laugh and the way she pronounces certain words.  And her clothes... it's the SAME shirt, every. single. time... only in different colours!

Her food seems good, but I don't like watching her either. I think her show is boring.

Mrs. R. that butter wizard looks so cool!

I like her food, but I agree she is a bit boring and I hate they way she talks to her friends and especially her husband...

My bil absolutely adores her and the show, and got me hooked on it.  Love watching all the yummy things she makes!

I love watching her show!! She is a tad boring but sometimes it's nice just to watch a show that's calm and not crazy with music. The only thing that bothers me is her mic (i'd assume) is so close too her mouth (somehow) that you can hear her breathing really heavy somethings lol.

Also I like her because when I was little we used to spend some time in the summer out in the Hamptons (well Montauk really) and my mother used to love going into her deli. I remember always seeing it and all the little shops she goes into in the Hamptons, I always know. So I love that! Reminds me of home! And her kitchen is gorgeous, when I move into my 5 bedroom house (dream on) I am going to do a kitchen like here (and yes, I did just redo my kitchen, but a girl can dream about her next one!)

Aren't the Hamptons lovely?

You know whose property I really envy though? Paula Deen.

Oh or that guy Michael Chiarcello or whatever who lives in the wine country...

Oh and Jamie Oliver's farm there is pretty nice to me as well...

That's it, I need to become a TV chef

I'll just take one of each, thanks. :)

I do like watching her though. I think she's as fake as the day is long, and she has that Martha Stewart vibe to her (like she's all honey onscreen -- stark, raving b$%^&$£ off it.) but ger voice is so so soothing and I love falling asleep listening to her.

But for true food-tv enjoyment my heart still belongs to Alton. Everyone else are just flings. ;)

I quite like watching her show but she uses so many expensive ingredients that can apparently only be bought from the gourmet stores and markets where she lives!
