Hope you're well soon.  And if it makes you feel any better, I had no intention of registering with a GP until my DH dragged me there and waited while I filled out the paperwork.  Good thing, too, as I've been to see the doc SIX TIMES in the past six months.  :o God save the NHS!

It's not just the newcomers who don't register...

...I haven't been on a doctor's register since 1998...

I'll own up to not being registered with a GP as well- I used to be in Manchester, but when I moved to Sheffield I just never bothered with it.  It's pure laziness on my part, I'll freely admit it.  And now that we're likely moving out of this area in a month or so I want to wait to register until we're settled in our new house- so maybe by July (a year+ after leaving Manchester!) I'll be registered again!
Now a triple citizen!

I've only just registered after being here since September.  In the US I only chose a doctor when I got sick after not going to the doctors for years and years.  I treated everything with herbs and vitamins until I got something that needed medical attention.

A combination of laziness and stubborness.

That's me!  I rarely get sick, but unfortunately, when I do, I get it bad...
That and without a car everything takes insane amounts of planning and twice as long to do something.  So now that I finally have a car, I don't mind so much.

:o  I repeat!

a) because I have moved so often since 1998 (which is when I left Uni)
b) because I am a bit lazy
c) I only need medical practicioners for my Pill...anything else I grin and bear it and then get better!
d) I am very cynical of doctors anyway...I think most of them are quacks who will just try to push pills on you to get you out of their office as fast as possible (biased and unsubstantiated, I know)

Oh, I know all of these are pathetic excuses by the way  ;D

I'll blame mine on good ol' fashioned procrastination.  And since I was able to get the pill through my friendly local family planning clinic, I wasn't in a rush to register.  Silly, I'll admit.

I'm with Genau! I honestly can't believe there are so many people without a GP.... I can understand not getting sick much and not feeling that it's a priority. I can also understand laziness, 'cause I'm one of the laziest people on earth in some respects.

But... thinking of worst case but unfortunately not uncommon scenarios... what if you found a lump in your breast or something? Wouldn't you want to not have to faff about finding a GP, getting regstered, etc.? Wouldn't you prefer to have someone in place who already has a family history on file and who you could ring immediately? I guess I personally would have a niggling worry in the back of my mind about it....

Before I was a parent I only registered with a GP if I needed to see someone because I never get sick.  A woman I worked with didn't have a GP, found a lump and went straight to the hospital. Turned out it was the best thing she could have done as it was cancerous and it got dealt with immediately instead of waiting aorund on a GP referral for weeks.
