FYI: if you do decide to go the OTC drug route, Tylenol PM is just diphenhydramine hydrochloride 25mg with acetominophen - the first thing is the one that will make you sleepy and is in reality plain ol' Benadryl, and can be got much more cheaply as a generic antihistamine.  It also carries the plus of being non-habit forming, and is generally sold more expensively (marketing ploy) as a sleep aid.  I've taken two at bedtime every night for years as it does double duty on my allergies and helps me to wind down an active mind for sleep.  Good luck!
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.

I have a really weird reaction to Tylenol PM: it makes my sugar drop. Anyone else had that?

My husband used to swear by melatonin.  However, this was 10-15 years ago so I don't know what the current thought/studies are about it.  A quick Google search wasn't a lot of help, but perhaps others here know if it's still recommended?

My husband's doctor recommended melatonin when he couldn't sleep awhile ago. We got it over-the-counter, and it seemed to work pretty well.

Just wanted to say hi, haven't seen your posts here in awhile. Sorry things aren't going very well, and I hope some of the advice given here helps you get some sleep.   :([smiley=hug.gif]

Olive oil will soften any wax in the ear so if the tinnitus is caused by that it might help.

Aww cool didn't know that, now it doesn't seem so gross.

I don't think you can get melatonin in the UK, but you can get DHEA which is very similar. My husband took it for a bit when he was working nights and it really helped him regulate his sleep pattern.

Do you know, my husband has had a really funny reaction to Tylenol PM as well - he took it on a plane once and made him feel really light headed and ill - I wonder if it was a similar thing?

Yeah, sounds exactly like my reaction to it. Plus I was weirdly restless too.

I had a couple of apples and that helped but I haven't taken it since.

I am not sure if you want to go this route, but here is another option, Roy works right beside a Chinese herbal shop and they have remedies in there to ease tinitus.  Just a thought.

Thanks for the replies everyone, sorry I haven't been on here for so long!  The cinnarizine seems to be helping the balance issues, but it's not helping the tinnitus or the sleep!  I'm tempted to take up drinking if it would mean 5 or 6 hours of sleep in a row.  I'm going to try and get back in with my GP to see if there's something else we can try for the sleep issues, and pray that my ENT appt comes through soon.  (And that there's something they can do for this #$%%%$@ ringing in my ears!!!)

Thanks again everyone...
