Oh it was only certain things that my parents were prejudiced against. So, bagel bites were ok, as was Apple Jacks cereal.  Perhaps because it contained the word apple?

My mom never, ever cooked.  She bought prepared foods from the supermarket and then expected me to make my own meals.  Which is probably why I was overweight for so long.

I'm from Houston and I have never heard of Rotel!  But I've never considered Gulf  Coast Texas part of the "southwest" either...

I'm from Houston, too, and I thought Rotel were those canned tomatoes with green chiles, not meat.

Can't say I consider the Gulf Coast southwest, either.  I mean, DUH, it's a bit too far EAST for that.

That's what Rotel is.  There isn't any meat in it. ??? :)

no Rotel doesn't have any meat in it..but you can make the Rotel/Velveeta dip with fried hamburger meat or sausage in it.

Thats maybe where the confusion is?????

Same here. I grew up on grilled Velveeta cheese sandwiches and Rotel chicken.

When I read Rotel chicken, I thought that meant some sort of canned chicken. ???

Sorry, that's the name of the recipe. But I can see how what I typed could be misinterpreted.

Rotel tomatoes are just chopped tinned toms and green chilis. And they have mild and hot varieties.

Again, YUM!

Okay, this will gross most of you out, but in our endeavor to find Velveeta in the UK, we experimented with the processed cheese slices you can buy for sandwiches.  I mean, really, they're practically the same, right?  Well, a package of those plus milk and salsa actually makes a decent queso!!  It's not Velveeta, nor am I saying it tastes IDENTICAL, but it's a good substitute in my opinion.  Would be good for an afternoon party or something where you'd normally have queso.  Not sure how it would work over something like broccoli or macaroni, since we have only tested it as a dip.  I give it a thumbs up!

So, do you just melt the cheese down all together with the milk and salsa? I seriously miss nacho cheese sauce. This may become one of my new favorite snacks!

Probably a regional thing. :)

I'm sure I've had it in Chicago

Yes! I don't know how others do it but I take the slices of cheese and chop them up into small bits so that they melt easier. I then put some cheese in a bowl, add a layer of salsa, more cheese, more salsa, etc. Pour a tiny little bit of milk in over the lot and put it in the microwave, stirring frequently to get rid of any lumps & bumps.

It turns out quite good, but unfortunately Doritos are still no match for Tostitos! I would kill for these bad boys! :D

I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

Well, I miss tostitos too! However, if I'm going to the trouble to melt down all that cheese, I'm going to fry my own chips.  :D

I was going to ask the same thing. I'm not sure if I've even seen Tostitos, but the name sounds sort of familiar.
