Men's engagement ring
« on: May 05, 2008, 06:18:29 AM »
I have never heard of a man wearing/receiving an engagement ring until today!  Is this a UK custom?  What type of ring do you buy a man for engagement and how is it different from his wedding ring?

Thanks!

Never have I. Would the man still wear a wedding ring then? Because I can't imagine many men wearing two rings!

Just an opinion, but that sounds really dorky to me.

In Germany men wear engagement rings. They wear it on their left hand when they are engaged and switch it to their right hand when they get married.

That's interesting!

my fiance has an engagement ring- but that's not a UK thing as far as I know, that's just an "us" thing. :) (He loves his, btw and is so happy I got him one! I think he'll be sad to switch to his wedding ring in a few months.)

My husband and I have matching unisex engagement rings, but it's definitely an "us" thing rather than a cultural thing.  We didn't switch to wedding rings, though.  Our engagement rings fit above the wedding rings.  We love them and got a lot of compliments on them at the wedding.

I didn't get an engagement ring until a month before our wedding after much pestering. My then fiance tried convicing me they don't 'do' engagement rings in the UK.  ::)

I can beat that! I finally got my engagement ring a week before we got married! (although had the stone for about 6 months before that).

My friend bought her now husband an engagement ring...  I don't see it as dorky at all, there's just no other tradition out there for girls to look to when they decide to pop the question!  I wonder if something different will develop after years of women proposing...?

I win.  I still don't have one after nineteen years of marriage.  I told him he better cough up something if we make it to twenty years without murdering each other.
