&%$£*&# Move!
« on: May 01, 2004, 12:21:19 PM »
AARRRGGGHHHH - I hate moving  :-[ With only a week left in the UK we STILL have a TON of things to sell and EVERYONE thinks they can buy expensive, quality stuff for like £1.
How did everyone else sell off their items? Any disappointments/regrets - or things they would do differently???

Why not donate the larger things to a charity for a tax write off (do they do that in the U.K?) ???

What about putting items in an auction?   There is bound to be an auction site near you and items can make more than they are worth. ;)

No, they dont do that here.  Well, maybe its possible if you are some sort of self-employed type, but your average PAYE punter cant do it.

Missy,, perhaps post a list of the things you need to sell yet. I am thinking that there are alot of people here who have just moved over, and are needing things, so perhaps everyone can benefit?

Thanks for the replies - good news is that everything is gone except the computer, which I will give to my father in law. Ahhh, this IS the LAST move!!! Whew! Moving back to America and that's that!

The big tip is this. . . Get whatever you can for stuff!!! EVERYTHING sold for far less than I had expected - but at least we got rid of it all. Car boots were magical for the everyday household stuff :)
Good luck Sarah - I hated that process  :-\\\\

Yeah is going to be a real downer in so many ways: it'll be hard to see my beloved stuff go but it'll be frusterating to get so little for it or have it not sell at all! Talk about material burden!

We're planning on going to a carboot sale in the next month or so to start clearning out. Better start now I guess, while the weather is good. (YES! You heard right - GOOD WEATHER! Can you believe it?). Im also going to look into house clearance places where they come in and buy everyting from you and sell it on. Anyone had any luck with those?

Next stop - ebay!

Thanks again for the tip Missy. How's life in the states?
