I made some about 2 weeks ago

- surprisingly it actually turned out the way it's supposed to... not too hard, not too soft and nice and crumbly. I think it's the first time it's actually worked for me in years.
I use the recipe that my grandmother used to use:
1lb white sugar
1 small tin condensed milk
1/2 teacup of milk and
3oz marg
You melt the marg in a saucepan, add all other ingredients and bring to the boil. Cook quickly for 10-15 min, stirring often (I stir constantly otherwise the sugar burns on the bottom). Drop a small amount into a bowl of cold water and it's done if it solidifies into a ball. Take it off the heat and beat for 5 minutes/until gritty and then pour into a container/tray to set.
It's very hard to get it exactly right though. If you don't cook it for long enough it won't get gritty when beaten and then won't solidify. If you beat it too long it suddenly goes really gritty and tough and sets hard before you can even pour it onto the tray!
I've been making tablet every year or so for almost 20 years and I've only managed to get it right about 3 times in total (the best batch being the one I made the other week)!
