To book or not to book?
« on: May 14, 2008, 07:42:04 AM »
I'm going home at October halfterm so i'm watching flights, which seem to go up by the week..

Should I assume they are NEVER coming down again and book now? Or risk it and hope they come down? Or does that even happen anymore?

The fact that it's over half term leads me to believe that they won't be coming down :-X

And boy, are they some ugly prices!

I would wait. They always go sky high in the summer, even if you're not planning on flying until later in the year. I booked mine last summer for travel in December, and I booked them straight away because they kept going higher and higher but when I checked again in October time they were £200 less!
I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

I would wait as well.  They tend to go down when people aren't as likely to be booking holidays.

I agree with the others. Wait till the end of summer (off peak) when everyone is having their fare sales.

Wow, that's good news.  Because £550 per ticket with a minimum of one stopover is really depressing!

I usually just set in my mind how much I can afford to pay (was £500 each for our trip in June) and when it hits that or below.. I book them right away and stop watching them.. because thats what I can afford and had set aside for the flights.  :)

Thats a good idea. If you're somewhat concerned or have a tendency to worry (like me!) then the peace of mind of knowing they're booked  and out of the way can be worth paying a little more than you would if you'd waited. Just depends on preference I suppose!

I would wait.  I just booked my ticket home to San Francisco on BA next month for £326.  When I looked a few months ago is was over £500.

Another vote for wait.

We're looking for flights in early November, and they are really high right now. So we're waiting.

I booked our Christmas tickets in late August last year, and even those came down (for all dates surrounding the holidays) later in the fall. I was shocked, as I figured those would remain expensive.

I am waiting this year too. Usually I have my tickets booked way in advance. I've already seen it go down a bit but I think there is still some potential!

We'll see if it works out!  :P
