BA sticklers for carry-ons?
« on: May 15, 2008, 06:13:23 PM »
We fly out in less then a week, and I'm trying to get all of our luggage sorted out. I would like to take one of those upright rollers as my carry-on, however the one I have is about an inch or two longer than the airline's limit when you factor in the handle. However it's smaller in both the other dimensions. I usually take small luggage bags as my carry on, so I was wondering if anyone has had an experience where your bags have actually been measured, or refused.

I've had to stick it in the thing they have to check if your bag fits. Last time, I had a soft bag that was a little longer, but slimmer and it wasn't full, so I just squished it and it was ok. I'm not sure about the roller.

sorry to scare you- but i have found BA to be the most stringent about hand luggage policy.  even in the US.  it MUST fit in their metal space thingy.

i've brought on my roller- but had to be carefl abotu what i put in the outside pockets.

I've also found Virgin to be extremely stringent, as they actually weigh carry-ons (or at least did in the past--I haven't flown them in a while) and the limit is something like 6kg.

I was forced to check my backpack (with laptop inside) when I was flying back home after spending 8 months studying abroad years ago. Granted it was nearly 30kg, and they didn't charge me for checking a 3rd bag.

actually when i flew ba to cairo from jfk, they were ok with my roller carryon.  im diabetic and have enough meds to supply a small villeage ::) plus my bp monitor and glucose kit. virgin didnt want to give me an excuse though..... but i made it on.  they also showed me that metal thingy at the check in lines and told me next time it needs to fit into that area, and if not then it will have to be checked. my weight was 13.5 kilos. it also contained my laptop, its one of those swiss bags....

BA was great about the weight limits. I love Virgin but would only travel between the US and UK for Christmas on BA because I was able to bring all of our presents in our carryon luggage.
