Increase your fiber and water and your colon will clean out itself!  If you are feeling a bit sluggish try a senna tea in the evening before bed.  Don't use them for more than a couple days though.

Also, first thing in the morning try a slice of lemon in hot water.  :)

I used to do that religiously, but seem to have given it up in the past few years. Maybe I should start again!

I have a friend who has within the last year started to have collonic irrigation regularly as she suffers from IBS (Constipation form) and she has lost a weight with it.  After treatment she goes on some form of diet involving lots of Miso soup for the week that follows..so I would say thats why she looses the weight rather than the irrigation itself.  She does say that she feels more energetic afterwards and less bloated around times of her "Aunt Flo"

MeShell, before you do it read some scientific research on it. It hasn't been proven to provide any better results than your regular enema or some lexatives.

BTW -- having the same problem (and reason) that you do, I usually stick to eating lots of fiber and if things aren't..ahem...moving for an extra long time, I just pop some ex-lax.

I really don't think there's all that poo stuck up there, I really don't. It's bio-material. The bacetria in the colon would surely convert it if it were.
And if you threw a party

It's excellent for your gall bladder, too.

I must admit I am a bit surprised by the infrequency that some of you have mentioned. Perhaps, like chary, my primarily vegetarian diet combined with a high water intake helps, but I never go more than 24 hours without!

My anatomy professor always said a quick way to tell if you are getting enough fiber is to assess the float status.

I can't believe I am posting about this.  :-X  ;D

Be careful meshell...colonics I've heard can be dangerous if you do them too much.  :-*

I went to a Harley Street clinic for a £90 colonic irrigation treatment back in 2003.  It had practically no effect on me.

I had read a Guardian weekend magazine article about people going to Thailand and getting the serious colonics done (where they do something like 1-2 colonics per day for a week, using coffee and such to really dislodge what is stuck up there).  I read stories about people who had dislodged marbles, elastic (rubber) bands, wads of chewing gum they had swallowed decades ago, undigested meat, etc. etc.  The article even showed graphic photos and I was really up for purifying my colon thusly.

But, my experience was not life changing in that respect, and I'm not sure why, but I wanted to reply in case anyone had the high hopes for it that I had, that were not met.

Having said that, if I had the chance to do the heavy duty Thailand-style series of colonics, I would give it a try, in hopes of better results.

It doesn't really matter how often you go.  As long as you are not in pain, doctors report some people only going a few times a week and that is normal for that person.

It isn't a problem unless this is a new symptom that has recently developed.

There has been no evidence from studying people in surgery or corpses of, shall we say, "leftovers" in the large intestines.

The Thai procedure sounds like an excellent way of getting a perforated bowel and/or an electrolyte imbalance causing a heart attack.  If the article is accurate in the number of procedures.

As for finding things they swallowed years eariler, what kid doesn't swallow a marble or whatever and probably doesn't even remember it.  Yet when presented with something "found" they suddenly have a revelation.

It sounds like the "psychic" surgery thing a few years back.  Look, I pulled out the cancer from your body, please ignore the fact that it looks like chicken entrails.

"The FDA classifies colonic irrigation systems as Class III devices that cannot be legally marketed except for medically indicated colon cleansing (such as before a radiologic endoscopic examination). No system has been approved for "routine" colon cleansing to promote the general well being of a patient."

On the spa of embarassing illnesses, they were doing a coffee type enema, and omg the things those people would pass. Not just caked fecal matter (sorry!) but the thick mucus sludge lining sloughed off as well. It was horrifying yet fascinating at the same time. My husband prefers I don't watch the show anymore, since I was gooling and trying to show him some of the online pics. heh

Could it be related to your surgery?  Perhaps you are absorbing less fluis than you used to?

Meh, ask your doctor seems to be the genreal advice, as long as he or she sees nothing wrong with it.

But did you really see what you thought you saw?

Your colon holds a lot, it is almost 7 feet long.  Just because a lot of stuff came out does not mean that it was impacted, it just means it didn't have time to work its way out yet. I would think introducing coffee to an area of your body that does not see undigested food would produced some gross mucusy stuff.
