I don't think colonics can hurt you if done a couple times a year or so.  I think it can help.  But MeShell, because of your situation (surgery) I don't know if it's such a good idea.  Your GP will guide you there, I guess.

I also disagree with those experts who say you should go 3 times a day.  There is a really good and well respected supplement company that does lots of gut and intestinal cleansing products that I think are just great, *but* they keep going on about "3 times a day".  I eat a gazillion portions of fruits and veggies every day (I'm almost vegan) and go only once a day.  Sometimes, but rarely twice a day.

Also, I am really interested in Ayurveda and it seems for those who are Kapha types, once a day or even less is probably inline with that constitution.

Vatta people are prone to "dry" imbalances, constipation being one of them and so they need more oils and more water in their diets.

Pitta people rarely suffer from constipation unless they are having a Vatta imbalance.

MeShell, maybe a few times a week is OK for you?  Maybe try introducing a bit more oil into your diet?  Since you don't like water, I'd definitely step up your half water, half juice intake.

(By the way, I'm no expert in Ayurveda, just someone who is really interested in it and reads up on it)

I have to say I'm pretty skeptical about these as well. I think the idea of what is 'normal/regular' differs from person to person. And I'm not sure bloating necessarily means you have 10 years of sludge stuck in you. Loosing weight after it? Sure, of course. A properly functioning bowel is going to have stuff in it.

My digestion is very easily upset so I'd just be worried that flushing out the bad and good would muck things up...
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I work at an Ayurvedic center and the Dosha (body types) are pretty spot on, it's amazing. I am very Vata. The whole thing is very interesting, but I just can't stomach some of the herbs, jellies and ghee they recommend ingesting.  :P

Oh, how cool!  Can you pm me the website, if there is one, of the centre you work at?

This could be a thread with TMI.

Also in the article it said that a "normal" person should go to the toilet 3 times a day..and that ppl eat to much of the wrong food in more cultured enviroments. Anyways I am lucky if I go every 3 days..and I am sure I would feel SO much better if I had this done...

It cost 75gbp's to have 1 session done so when the money from my house sale goes thru I am going to get it done...along with getting my teeth whitened ;D

Will let you know how it goes...

I am sure that I read somewhere else that ''normal'' can be 3x a day to 3x a week. It depends on you, and your body and what you eat.

£75 sounds reasonable, do you need any follow ups or is it a one-time job?

I would loooove to have it done, I am curious to hear what its like and what the result is...

I have no problem with floating!! I have to flush more than a few times. ::)

LOL I am obsessed with Dr Gillian McKeith's poo chart, which I think was actually developed by Bristol Uni.

I am defo not going to have it his done without asking my GP. Have even thought of emailing my surgeon that performed my Gastric bypass and see what he thinks.

I hardly eat anything with a high or moderate degree of fat in it..makes me ill. The most fat I get is in semi milk I drink with my tea. I try not to eat processed food or ready meals cause it makes my stomach hurt. Fresh food is nicer for me.

I think the milk is what makes my poo firmer than what I would like. :-\\\\

Maybe try switching to soya and see if that helps the problem.

I'm moderately lactose intolerant and a bit of milk in my coffee is about all I can take.

I do drink soya when I think about it and I buy it for myself..but more times than not I use normal semi.

The amount of times you go has nothing to do with how blocked up you are. My sister had a complete bowel obstruction and never had any issues with not going frequently enough. She never even knew there was a problem until she was in the emergency room and was told she had to have surgery immediately to save her life.
