Best Buy/Circuit City in England?
« on: May 26, 2008, 02:02:43 AM »
I wasn't sure where to post this, so I apologize if it's the wrong area.  I know there isn't a Best Buy or Circuit City anywhere in England (to my knowledge), but are there any stores like those two?  Preferably in the London area?

Thanks.   :)

What are you looking for?  The ones that spring to mind for electrical equipment would be Comet, Curry's and Dixon's, with Argos (a catalog store) thrown in for good measure.

A Wii.   ;D  Not anytime soon, though.  I just want to know where to look when the time comes.

As well as the electrical stores you could also try places like Virgin Megastore (or whatever name it's going by these days), HMV, WHSmith, Boots, Tesco, ASDA, any Video Game Stores, Video Rental stores (e.g. Blockbuster) etc. or even just look online at Amazon UK.

I'm not sure if you'd be able to find one at any/all of the stores, but quite often a lot of them will stock gaming consoles and other electrical equipment, especially towards Christmas time when they bring in a wider range of stock.

Woolworths often stocks things like this, too.
Another shameless promotion for www.mclevey.com, the best place on the internet to buy art.

I got ours at Woolworths online and it was the best deal I found.

Actually, I'm from Bristol, England but I moved to Albuquerque in January 2008 - I'm an international grad student at UNM right now :).

Neat!  I graduated from UNM with my BA in Intercultural Communication.  Now I'm in Las Vegas, New Mexico studying Social Work.  One more year to go before I graduate and head over to work in London.

Have you yet had a run-in with the wondrous wonder known as green chile?   :)

I heard that bestBuy entered into a joint project to launch 50% of carphone warehouse. First they will sell theirs product into Carphone store, and after they will open with the Best Buy  brand name.

That sounds cool :). I have to warn you though, it'll be a big shock weather-wise moving to London, lol. Be prepared for almost as many days of cloudy gray skies in England as there are sunny days in NM  :).

I haven't had much green chile since I've been here this year, but I also studied at UNM as an international exchange student in 2003/04 (part of the reason I came back for grad school was because I had contacts in my dept from last time) and ate plenty of it then :). Once I returned to the UK after that year, nothing was hot enough for me! Now that I'm living in an apartment and not in the dorms and I'm cooking for myself I don't eat as much of it - mostly because I'm not really sure how to cook/what to make with chile  ::).

Green chile goes with just about anything!  I think there's a green chile cookbook out there somewhere...  When I move abroad, I'm going to have to have green chile imported over, as it's seriously my lifeblood.   ;D

I think I'm more than ready for London's weather!  Well...that's what I like to tell myself - I've yet to do a London winter!  I was there all last summer through the rain and the floods, but I enjoyed not having to deal with the sweltering heat.   :)

I've got a friend who works at Carphone Warehouse and he said basically the same thing.  I wondered what was going on when they had a mobile phone displayed with 'Cingular' showing as the carrier in the illustration!

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.
