Need ideas for 4th of July party food...
« on: May 26, 2008, 03:41:10 PM »
I'm having an Independence Day party and the only American there will probably be me!  I've promised friends American food, but am struggling for ideas.  So far, I've only come up with cupcakes that have white icing and red and blue sprinkles.  I really have no imagination! :(

The party is a joint candle party/4th of July party, so I'm just looking to do nibbles nothing big (grilling, etc..).

Also, drink recommendations would be welcome as well :D  I need to get these girls drunk so they'll buy lots of candles! :P :P

Hmm...nachos?  Chips & guac?  Peanut butter cookies?  It's hard to come up with American snack food rather than meal-type things!

No ideas about drinks, I'm afraid - there's always cheap beer, though - get a keg!  ;D

Fried chicken.  Can be prepared in advance and served cold.  Potato salad, coleslaw.  Spiked watermelon always goes down a treat with adults.

PB cookies are a good idea.  Thanks!

Corn on the cob?  You could cut up one cob into a few pieces to make them more nibbly-friendly.  Make some garlic butter to slather on 'em, too.  Mmm.

In terms of drinks, what about margaritas?  You can make the mix ahead of time, and make up pitchers as you need them.  Plus, it's easy to make them sneakily strong.  You know, to up the candle sales. ;)

Lemondade!  At summer parties we always had potato sald and coleslaw as someone already suggested.  Also cold macaroni salad.  How about macaroni and cheese?

Mexican layered dip!

American flag cake (decorated like a flag using blueberries, strawberries, and bananas)

Hot wings
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Great idea!  Also, any other typically American baked thing.  Apple pie (already mentioned), pecan pie, strawberry shortcake...

Don't forget veggie dogs and veggie burgers for the vegetarians!  Also ketchup and "yellow" mustard (as opposed to the hot English mustard).  Dill pickles.

I'm definitely doing a mexican layered dip!  Love it.

I'll probably do a cheesecake (with graham cracker crust) with blueberries and strawberries on top.  Yum!

Thanks for the ideas everyone!  I'm getting excited already :)
