You know ... REAL cake!  The cake they have over here in England just dosent taste like the cake at home.  I think maybe its the frostning... not sure ... but a nice fluffy homemade chocolate cake with tons of frostning would be awesome!

I'm having an Independence Day party and the only American there will probably be me!  I've promised friends American food, but am struggling for ideas.  So far, I've only come up with cupcakes that have white icing and red and blue sprinkles.  I really have no imagination! :(

The party is a joint candle party/4th of July party, so I'm just looking to do nibbles nothing big (grilling, etc..).

Also, drink recommendations would be welcome as well :D  I need to get these girls drunk so they'll buy lots of candles! :P :P

A lady I used to work with would make a sponge cake every year which she would cut into 2 layers and fill the layers and the top with whipped cream, bluberries and strawberries (or raspberries).  It was awesome!  And even though I am the worst cook ever, I actually made one once and it was easy:-)

Thanks, that's sweet of you to offer but my mom is sending me a package soon so I'll have her ship anything I need to me.  :)

Lucky you going back for the 4th.  Have fun!

You could make one of the stars n stripe cakes - a rectangular cake decorated with white frosting, strawberry stripes and blueberries...  :)

I'm doing a black eyed pea salad as one of the dishes I'm bringing for Aillidh's Sports Day at nursery.

And fried chicken.

And lemon bars.

Those are all pretty American, easy to make (well, we have a deep fat fryer), too.

My grandmother always makes this cake for 4th of July: It's not too hard to make and it looks like a US flag! http://www.boodle.com/cgi-bin/recipes.cgi?config=ONW&recipe=recipe-RecipeoftheWeek5.txt

It wouldn't be 4th of July with out  one  ;)  My bf is allergic to strawberries or I'd try to make one on my own this year.

Can you use raspberries instead?
