Overdrafts and FLR(M)
« on: May 28, 2008, 02:42:27 PM »
So DH, being a student (about to be graduate, yay!) has a sizable overdraft on his bank account (£1,750 or thereabouts) that is interest-free for the next 3 years.  Currently he's about £700 into the overdraft, but that will be completely paid off by the end of June and he'll be operating in credit once his new job starts paying him.

Since I don't yet have a job lined up after my current contract finishes in August, we're going to have to rely on income from DH's permanent job plus about £2200 in savings for our FLR(M) (enough for us to live on for the next 12 months if I remain unemployed). However, I'm wondering if I should mention that we have this overdraft available to us.  I know it probably won't hurt to mention it if all else is in order, but will it help?

Yes, mention it.  Think of it in terms of a loan.

cheers, Vicky :)  Thinking about it, it makes sense now...after all I did use my student loan as proof of funds when I applied for my student visa! Obviously this isn't the same thing but it helps to frame it in that way.
