Aer Lingus??
« on: May 29, 2008, 03:14:22 AM »
Hiya! Hope everyone had a nice extended bank holiday weekend both here in USA and UK. I have exactly 7 days till I hop on the plane for UK to join my hubby. Yay!! *does a little dance*   Whenever I have traveled to England before I have always flown on Virgin but this time being summer and the ever inflated petrol price I purchased a one way ticket on Aer Lingus.

I did read all the post about difficulties getting the Spouse Visa stamped when flying in from Dublin.  >:(   alittle too late for me now, though I think I should be ok. I'll demand it, going by the advice of everyone else.

My question is, how was it? Do you get your own personal movie screen infront of your seat like Virgin? Are the planes new or older models? oh and is 2 hours enough time to change planes?

Much thanks!

You might want to check this thread out with regards to demanding your stamp from Dublin..there is a number on here that you may need.  Fingers crossed tho, you will be ok. This was info we had to sort out last week.

As for Aer Lingus..my partner flew in from California with them last week.  He said he had movies and computer games to play at the back of the chair...but not a lot of leg room....He had 1.45 mins to change planes but the original plane was a hour late so he missed his transfer..he told the lady at the desk that he had a bad leg and couldn't run to catch it ( not true ) and they gave him a new ticket for the next plane (planes from Dublin to England run roughly every hour)  So if you think your putting too much pressure on yourself to catch the next flight just tell them you have a bad leg and can't run to catch it ;)

Hopefully all your planes will be on time and you will be ok.

I've flown Aer Lingus to and from NY a load of times, September of last year being the most recent. Each and everytime I've flown the plane was a 737 and did not have my own television. Not the greatest airline imo and too expensive with their taxes BUT you get here safe and sound and not screaming that the flight was horrendous. In this day and age, I call that a great flight.

Thanks for that! I hadn't seen that post. My hubby and I are going to Spain 19 days after my arrival so if it does become a problem, there is that option.

I don't think I can lie about having a bad leg though. I'm a BAD liar!!  :-[  haha   you can see it on my face when I am trying to lie so it's better I don't attempt it. Hopefully there will not be any delays taking off from LAX.

I hope I get one with my own TV. Makes a big difference to me because I can't really sleep on planes. Helps the time go by. 6 more days to go!!!! weeeeee  ;D

The (2) Plane types they have reviewed ONLY have overhead TV's.

Thanks for those links! I'll read the reviews.  Only overhead monitors eh?  hmmm not good.
4 days to go now!!!   [smiley=heart.gif]

The last time I flew Aer Lingus, (April 2006 LAX to Dublin), there were no seatback monitors. It was all very basic but at the time they had the best deal on excess baggage. Good luck.

Thanks!! Hopefully I get the 3 seating row to myself and I can scrunch up and sleep. 3 days to go now. I feel like a little kid at Christmas. Just want to be there already so I can start my new life. I feel like presently I am stuck in limbo. All my belongings are already shipped so I don't have much of anything either.  :-\\\\

Not anymore. They only allow 2 bags checked, total combined weight limit 80 pounds. Which is fine if you're just going on holiday but when this is your first move for settlement, you have a lot more stuff. Well I do anyway. I think I might go over and have to pay a fee. I shipped most of my stuff but since I wasn't sure when I would actually get them, most of my clothes and shoes will be flying with me.

Thanks for your well wishes! Been looking forward to this day for over 2 years now. Finally it's gonna happen.

Yeah tell me about it! I need to stop counting down but I've been doing that since 2 years ago. Everytime I would return from my visiting him, I would already start counting down 3 months to go!! till he comes here sort of thing. haha  it's become a habit now.

Too bad we can't bottle that feeling forever eh? Would come in handy on those not so pleasant days.

I'm going to have my ipod too and try to read this book which I picked up yesterday from Barnes and Nobles called "Why men love b*tches."  The title caught my attention.  :o Just talks about why men go from being super romantic and considerate in the beginning but then take the nice girl for granted later and how not to become a victim of that. It'll be an interesting read.

Thanks for your well wishes!! Ipswich here I come!!

oh yeah I decided last minute to book a *direct* flight on Air New Zealand which was still inexpensive into Heathrow knowing that I probably would have to eat the cost of the first ticket. Called up Aer Lingus and also my credit card company, explained the situation and to my surprise got my money refunded for that first ticket!! I didn't think I would be able to since it says NO REFUND.

After thinking about it, the aggravation was not worth it trying to hunt down an IO at Dublin and trying to beg and plead with them to stamp my book, and probably not getting anywhere. I'm glad I re-booked a direct flight.

That's great!

I'd never fly into the UK via Dublin again.  Its just not worth the worry or hassle (IMO).

Glad you arrived safely :)
