Airfare Sales
« on: May 31, 2008, 12:23:54 AM »
Has anyone found any good deals from the US to the UK or the UK to the US? I have been checking every travel site I can find and so far, haven't found much. I realize with fuel costs so high this year, fares will be higher but keep praying they will still offer some sort of deals. I have checked Summer and Winter and the best I can find is much higher than last year.  :-\\\\ Where do you buy tickets when you travel?

Oh i got excited seeing the subject of this thread because i thought you may have found an airfare sale!  I work in travel and have been looking at the fares everyday for nearly 2 months for flights to/from the US and UK for July and for the fall.  It's been generally very high....i just did a ticket today from LHR to CVG on United, but ticketed as BMI, for about £480.
That seems to be a relatively good price for the summer, but i don't know with the state of things at the moment with fuel costs, how likely there is to be a real 'sale'...Those seem to be becoming a very rare thing, at least with regards to the US carriers.
Good luck!!  Let me know if you find anything....

I've been checking also and I have come to the conclusion that it is best to wait until 3 weeks before departure to get the best price. I know a lot of people can't book that close.
I just got through talking to my DD and she was telling me her inlaws lost money because they booked in advance with ALHOA airlines and then they went bankrupt.
Lastly, there are so many ways of flying that it becomes very confusing about the best fares.

mspotts, $562 would make me really happy right now. Sadly, for summer fares the lowest I find here to there is more like $1100. Winter isn't much better, with the lowest so far $800. I did find one deal for August from London to MSP for 570 GBP but that is still pretty high.  :P

Sorry Rubygirl, I didn't mean to get your hopes up. Just trying to find some other ideas on where people are finding any "deals". Sounds like you found yourself a pretty good one for summer. Yay for you! I will pass along any good deals I may come across.

Jim, I think you may be on to something with the three weeks thing. I did a search three weeks out from now and found a fare of 403 GBP total with tax. Wow, though it doesn't work for us to travel then, it gives me a little hope.

I like the site lessno.com. Just found that one lately and it seems pretty good. Ebookers.com is another one that seems ok. It drives me mad though all the sites that advertise a great fare, then you add in the tax and it more than doubles.

The search continues...  ;D

I'm travelling in October but with BA about to raise their prices yet again on Tuesday, i'm looking again.... I did a price check for 3 weeks from now and it was virtually the same as what I priced for Oct. And no one can guarantee that fuel won't go up again between now and October so I think I might just take what I can get now... :-\\\\

Have you tried PRICELINE and make a bid at a price you think is reasonable and cheap.
Think also about flying into Ireland and Canada.
Good luck.

SillySprite, you mentioned flying from London to MSP - Minneapolis is my 'home' airport, and i have to tell you, in years (8 or 9??) of flying back and forth, I've rarely found a cheaper ticket than directly from KLM/NWA.  People flying to Minneapolis don't seem to be quite a spoilt for choice as those landing on either of the coasts - or even in Chicago.

We're planning on flying in September, which is now £536!  When I checked the same dates 3 weeks ago, it was £100 less.  (:  Can't imagine what it would be like in July.

I once got an excellent deal from MSP to LHR via AirCanada...I didn't realise when I bought the ticket that they were going through bankruptcy, so it was rather nervewracking, but they still flew!

Good luck to both of us on finding some reasonably priced tickets...

MTA - the price of £536 was for flying from Birmingham (where I live) to MSP.  Just checked KLM's price from Heathrow to MSP in September, and it's £444.  July is higher at £634...

British airways site, we put in dates for about the 16th june through August and we just got a quote of £1800 give or take few pounds for 6 of us, 4 adults 2 kids (we have to pay full price for 2 of the boys now, it worked out about £470ish but the thing is that most of it was made up of tax well over £250 pounds I think the quote was like really good till they put the tax and fuel charges but oh well, we need a holiday what do you do.

Indy
I hope we get better weather with the new year I am getting rained out.

Good luck to everyone with respective visa applications.

I looked at this and nearly wet myself with joy.... except it was before taxes. :-\\\\ The United flights were actually more than on the UA website..... it's all so depressing!
