cornmeal
« on: December 12, 2002, 06:01:42 PM »
Can anyone tell me where to find cornmeal?  Not cornflour, but the grainy stuff used to make cornbread, or in my case, to sprinkle on the pizza stone before baking the pizza so the crust won't stick.  I swear I've looked all through Sainsbury's and can't find it!

Thanks,
Stephanie

They sell it in most Tesco's I've been too, as well as some of the health food shops, and even my corner shop once!

Try looking with the indian food...I've heard it can be found there.

Good luck!

Cornmeal can be found in most supermarkets with the other dried goods but sometimes try looking in the Caribbean section too.

If you don't have any success, look for polenta (the Italian name for cornmeal). Same product, different name. Italian delis always stock it.

Health food stores usually have it too.

Lots of cornmeal mentions in the Food section, but I thought I'd post this here:

You should be able to find Polenta in any large supermarket.

I've seen it in health food stores (as polenta) and I think also in with the Indian ingredients in other stores.

I buy it in 1kilo bags at an Indian supermarket for £1.49.  LOVE my cornbread!!!  :)

Yeah, I reckon she gave up & moved back to the US for want of cornmeal.

I had a hard time finding it too for a start, until I ran across it in Holland and Barrett.  Once I'd found it, of course, it turned up in a giant bag in a Tesco I visited briefly.  Better believe I bought it!
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.
