Gift from relitives, urgant advice needed.
« on: June 04, 2008, 11:03:03 AM »
I'm meant to be leaving on the 12th. My nan is going to give me £2,000 for my husband to support himself on even though he has a job offer and will start as soon as we get back.
My husband is telling me the gift has to be on my bank statements for 3 months before we apply, is that true?

You need to have proof of the gift but there is no time requirement - the deposit can be made today as long as you get a statement from your bank showing that it's available to you, and include that statement in your supporting documentation.

I had a similar thing with my application. My Dad gave me 3000GBP as a gift. I didn't even have a bank account to put it in, so I opened one and deposited the money in after a couple of weeks. To show that my Dad gave it to me, I included a copy of his bank statement for that month showing the transfer.

I was going to ask my nan if she can write a letter stating it's a non repayable gift. The bank just withdrew it from her account and put it into mine because it's easier then transferring it. She did it this morning so it's all done and sorted.

Thanks
