The Official Euro 2008 Thread
« on: June 06, 2008, 08:28:40 AM »
C'mon peeps.  Just one day to go.  The English, Irish and Scots are out, so who are you going to to support?  Think there will be any surprise winners this year or will it be the usual suspects?

Me, I'm going for the Dutch and we have bloody hard group -- France and Italy!  Ah well, for the next few weeks I'm officially Oranje!

I'm supporting Poland, and looking forward to them causing a shock upset as they finish top of their group  ;D

I got Switzerland in the sweepstake :(

Spain for me, or Croatia.

Just so long though as the winners aren't Italy, Germany or France!

What a great opening game! I never expected the Swiss to play so well and they really did deserve a point.  It was just a shame that the ref didn't spot the handball.

Did anyone see Portugal v Turkey? Any good?  How did Ronaldo play?

Saw the first game, wasn't too impressed. Then again it was typical international fayre - can't expect great football from players that rarely get together)
I take it you mean the first handball appeal as the 2nd (near the end) certainly wasn't handball for me.

Didn't see the 2nd game but did hear that it was a good game.

I saw the second.  Ronaldo was ok.  Flashes of brilliance, did score a goal.  Even though Portugal won, you were still left with a sense that they could have done better.  They'd definitely be good fodder for the Crossbar Challenge.

Watching the highlights now.

Tykeman - yeah, I agree, the second wasn't handball.  But I disagree about the game, I thought it was pretty good.  Especially that burst in the second half when Switzerland nearly got back into it.

Not according to the BBC report!

Austria played well against Croatia too.  What a funny tournament this could be.

I got Spain in my office sweepstake, I agree with the poster that said its about time they won.  ;D

Our sweepstake is cool, £50 for the winner, £30 for the runner up and £10 to the first team to have someone sent off!

My friend drew Italy and was disappointed, especially when I drew Spain, which she really wanted as she used to live there. She wanted to trade until I pointed out that Italy had won the World Cup so she may want to stick with what she's got.
Good things come to those who wait...a really long time.
