Don't you need special brown paper bags for that? with a heat strip inside it?

I always see brown paper bags beside the fresh mushrooms in my supermarket.

Oh yeah-
Hmmm, do those have a plastic window though?

Brown paper bags are a nice way to make healthy popcorn without all the oil-
Obviously its fun to cook popcorn in my big kettle with lots of oil and salt, but if I'm in the mood for being a good girl, its great to make in the microwave.  Add a little less than 1/8 cup of kernals in a brown paper bag, sprinkle with some salt-seasonings, tape shut, put on for a few minutes and listen for the 1-2 seconds between pops and bob's your uncle, healthy popcorn.

Ugh, I spent most of last year looking for these brown paper lunch bags in vain! I tried everywhere - supermarkets, Costco, little asian food stores, pound shops, etc  etc and I got nothing. (I also wanted them to make popcorn!)

I eventually gave in and asked my mom to just send a bag in with my next care package. She laughed at my weird request (the other odd one being paraffin wax for canning), but I've got a big supply now and I reuse them for lunches a lot before they go onto popcorn duty, so I feel I'm getting a full use out of them!

When I do popcorn in the microwave I use a plastic bowl with something on top to stop it all flying out.

You know, I should just do that, more enviornmentally friendly too.  Thanks

But use a glass bowl rather than plastic because the materials in the plastic can melt and leak into your food and can cause the big C.......... :-X

As a plastics engineer, I can debate and provide a lot of insight on this on this whole plastics=cancer thing, as well as the actual environmental impact of plastics forever and ever but I won't right now, because its not something I'm really in the mood for doing right now.

But I will use a glass bowl with the popcorn, because porpcorn (like rice) tends to get hot and melt a lot of plastics.

I never thought to use a bowl in the microwave.  I bought an air popper from Lidl for about £5.  We use it all the time and it hasn't let me down.

I've only had melting plastic happen using cheap plastic when I've burnt popcorn or rice, which is why I wanted to use glass, because I tend to be real good at burning popcorn.

Only certain plastics will melt in the microwave and it tends to only be the real cheapies.

Come to think of it, and I just remembered, we had a microwave popcorn popper from tupperware as a kid (so not cheap plastic) and it worked awesome for popcorn.  I wonder if I can find one of those- it had a vented lid for the steam.  It was great.
