Farmhouse Cider
« on: June 11, 2008, 01:11:19 PM »
Since it was sunny yesterday, we decided to go for a drive to find some authentic Somerset farmhouse cider.

Turns out there's one place really close to our house, but we opted for the one about 45 minutes away, next to the RSPCA where we got our kittens.

It was lovely. The farmer gave us little sample cups of each of the ciders (I have never tasted a dry cider THAT dry!!), and we walked away with 5 litres of the medium cider for £9 (should have been £9.20, but he gave us a discount because I had a bunch of pound coins and he was low on change).

We still have a bunch of it in the fridge, but it was absolutely lovely to have on a hot day. I did miss the fizz of commercial cider at times, but the flavour was so much more impressive.

This is the one we went to: http://www.burnham-on-sea.co.uk/west_croft_cider/

We have a few other smaller ones, and the one nearer us, to check out.

Definitely a fun day out, too!
Another shameless promotion for www.mclevey.com, the best place on the internet to buy art.

Proper west country cider is one of the few things I'll miss about England!  The cheap store bought fizzy cider is awful!

Glad you enjoyed and had fun!  :)
