Tim Westood

Yo does anyone here like Tim Westwood? He did a gig up at my Uni awhile ago. It's going down baby! Drop da bomb! We're tearing it down!

Tim Westwood is a British rap DJ and mostly works on Radio 1. He also presents the MTV UK version of Pimp My Ride (my brother watches it). It was a big thing in the news when he was shot in London in 1999 (apparently a motorcyclist opened fire on his car as he was driving through the city) - luckily he made a fully recovery.

I don't listen to him on the radio though or anything, I just know who he is.

He's the person who, in the whole of the UK, wishes more than any other white guy that he'd been born black.

I can't stand him, but I have friends who are in the UK music business who say he's helped them. So I guess I give him credit for that.

I just think he tries too hard.

Trying too hard = embarrassing and slightly desperate (at least that's the way my friends in both the US and the UK look at it) 

I believe he was considered quite cool in about 1996 but he is now just a figure of fun.  I think the 'talking like he is from da ghetto' lost its edge when we all found out that his dad was the  Bishop of Peterborough.
