How old were you when....?

My dad took us to see The Empire Strikes Back (must not have been able to get a sitter!) and I fell asleep through the whole thing. I was 5.

How old were you when you saw your first R rated movie?

I think about 8 or 9. We had a drive-in near us and there was a tree fort behind the drive-in and when we 'camped' out in the backyard, we would sneak down to the drive-in. Someone would always climb under the fence and turn up all the speakers in the backrows. Wasn't great but we weren't exactly there for the dialog.


How old were you when you first got drunk, not tipsy but absolutely legless?

Believe it or not I have never been more than a little tipsy!

How old were you when you stopped sleeping with stuffed animals / dolls?

Who says I stopped? LOL Seriously don't know but very young.

How old were you when you first discovered love (puppy or true)?

The first real crush I can remember was when I was in 3rd grade, so I was nine. I drew a heart around his head on our class picture. I'm sure there were younger ones, but that's the one that really sticks in my head.

If you sucked your thumb as a child, how old were you when you stopped?

I actually sucked my middle and ring fingers on my right hand.  I'm pretty sure I stopped before age 5.

How old were you when you were allowed to decide on when and how to have your hair cut?

Um, at the age of 9, my parents had joint custody, so since my dad couldn't brush my hair very well, he had it all chopped off, and being a bit chubby for my age, I looked like a bowling ball! My mom was furious and said I should never let him do that again, and I hated that hair cut, so I guess after that I got to decide for myself.

How old were you when you first cooked something by yourself?

According to my worried (at the time) Grandma, I was coming home from kindergarten (age 5) and turning the oven on and heating my lunch that was left out for me. Mom was working, dad was TDY somewhere. I was probably about 4 when I was making toast (if that is classed as cooking).

How old were you when you first drove a car (licensed or otherwise)?

AyouBob and Jewlz your responses are funny!    I remember cutting a carrot with a steak knife at around age 8 or 9 (not *really* cooking) and I have a scar on my finger to this day from cutting myself.

I first drove at about 17, I think during my driving lessons with my Dad and then later with a (pervy!) professional teacher.  I got my license a couple years later than most of the kids.

How old were you when you went on your first date (and where was it--just to make this even more interesting)?

First 'real' date must have been dinner at my first Chinese restaurant in Germany. I was 14 and her parents took us out for a meal. I remember getting drunk on red wine and when I got home I had to take the dog out and remember going to swing on a clothesline and completely missed it and fell flat on my face. For some reason I thought that was funny as hell. Remember anything else of the date? No, not really but couldn't have been too bad as we continued going out for a few years after that event.

How old were you when you were first exposed to smoking?

Newborn or before, unfortunately--my mom was a smoker and they weren't as health savvy back in the mid-60's as they are these days.

How old were you when you first personally experienced prejudice (for any reason--race, religion, physical disability, etc.)?

My first recollection of prejudice was seeing a bunch of Cadillacs with white-hooded men driving past. This was in Mississippi in the early 60's. I think I was 4 or 5 and remember asking my father why all of them were dressed in costumes. I knew it was wrong but only learned as I got older how wrong.

How old were you when you first discovered you had a talent?

Still trying to find any talent but I started writing poetry at age 6.
