Mid twenties probably. I should have learned that much earlier in life, it would have saved so many heartbreaks.

At 21, I took the train from Philadelphia to Chicago to visit my cousin for two weeks.  I had a great time and made friends on the train!

How old were you when you first took a vacation on your own?

Without parents?? When I was 17 my friend and I drove up to a camp where a friend of ours was a counselor for the summer. We spent the weekend there and I have good memories of it.

How old were you the first time you left the US?

Ohhh!!! I was 32. I went to Edinburgh as a birthday gift to myself! I'm not really keen on vacationing alone.

I'm pretty sure I shaved my legs around age 12 or 13.  Didn't need to though.

How old were you when you first took public transport on your own (not counting for school)?

I was 12 - my friends and I used to take the bus into Bristol to go shopping on the weekends/inset days from school :).


How old were you when you first set up house on your own? (i.e. bought furniture/ornaments, planned decor, made the place your own etc. - I've only just started doing it this year because I've been in and out of temporary uni accommodation/my parents house for the past 8 years)

I guess 23, when I moved out for the first time.  I didn't have much money, and I didn't really buy any furniture, but my room-mate and I certainly made the place our own with our (and friend's) artwork and thrift store finds.  I was 31 when I bought my first real piece of furniture--a futon and frame, It was also my first place alone (with no room-mates).

16. It was a huge Cutlass Supreme. I could lay down in the back seat and my head and feet wouldn't touch either door. umm....not that I spent much time laying down in the back seat.  :o

Really young, under 10.  We had a pool and my best friend had some liberal minded parents so she ended up introducing me to all sorts of information that made my mother sigh.
