How old were you when....?

I think the first time I felt old was when I was 24 - we had a new manager at work (aged 19) who said she couldn't remember Take That the first time around (they were together from 1990 to 1996 and at the time, my friends considered it uncool to like them) - that made me feel old as I was a pre-teen/teenager back then!

How old where you when you bought your first record (LP/cassette/CD/whatever it was)?

16  I bought 3 LP's (Elton John - Yellow Brick Road; BTO - Not Fragile; PaulMcCartney & Wings - Band on the Run)

First record a 45 Donovan - Good Morning Starshine was acquired at the age of 8 won't go into details of its acquisition other than to say it should have been bought but for whatever reason it wasn't 

How old were you when you first could swim under water?

My mom took me to the YMCA to swim as soon as I could walk.  She said I could swim before I could walk (I find it hard to believe), but I can remember swimming under the water as early as 4.

How old were you went you went on your first camping trip?

12 or 13.  Went to the Smokey Mountains with my youth group and had a blast.

How old were you when you got your first job?

 

8 as self employed I took my dad's mower and went a cut some people lawns

13 first taxable job building an indoor firing range for the Rod&Gun club.

How old were you when you filed your first tax return?

I think 23 (my first job was "under the table" from age 16 to 23, so now tax returns).

How old were you when you started to seriously make an effort at saving money?

probably about 8 or 9 and then it all went downhill from there


How old were you when you acquired your first car?

I have never owned a car, but I guess the car my ex and I bought together (since our finances were together) counts (I never drove), so 36-ish.

How old were you when you first experienced the death of a pet?

I was about 4 and our dog got hit by a car. I didn't fully understand but new something bad had happened.

How old were you when you got your first pet (not a family pet but your very own)?

I was 8 or 9. I got a cat named Sneakers. 

How old were you when you first drove a car?

I was 8!!! It was driving a VW on a public road (rural MS). My step dad asked me if I wanted a try. Hell yea. Went through all the gears AND a dang dog ran across the road so I accomplished my first emergency stop. And didn't stall. He sat stunned that I could drive. It just came natural. I did a good job. It was a real bummer cuz I knew I could drive and had to wait another 7 years to become legal. That was a loooong 7 years!

How old were you when you got your very own computer (not a shared machine but ALL yours)?

Believe it or not, I was 7 (yeah I was a little spoiled by my dad).  I actually had my own personal computer about 5 years before my mom and step-dad ever bought one for themselves.  I remember that it had the original AOL.  It was all in black and white...quite ugly.  It had MS DOS and when you fired it up (after about 5 minutes just to start), a big empty black screen came up and you had to type in all the command prompts to get it to work.  My how things have changed.

I went on one and only one blind date (set up by my much older cousin) and then vowed *never* to do it again!  What year did "E.T." come out?  Then I can figure out how old I was....OK, I just googled it--I was 18.

How old were you when you first went to a concert on your own--no parents to take you there or pick you up.

about 18..My cousin took me  to  see NKOTB  (does that count?)
