Weekend getaway, this weekend
« on: June 24, 2008, 10:46:20 PM »
Hello,

I'm looking for suggestions for a weekend getaway (Saturday-Sunday, 1 night) for my dh, 17 month old dd and I. We would like to take the train (from Victoria station would be ideal) and not travel more than 2 or 3 hours each way. And we would probably like to stay in a hotel rather than a B&B, unless you think the place would be okay with us having our daughter along.

A friend recommended Chipping Camden but mentioned it might be difficult to get there by train?

We went to Salisbury last weekend but other than that we're up for anywhere.

Thanks so much!

Bath gets my vote. I love Demuth's restaurant!

Bath and Longleat are excellent suggestions - train to Bath could be busy but most of the glasto's will already be there.

If the weather is good how about Bournemouth/Poole, Brighton, IOW or Chichester or inland to Oxford or Cambridge. all less than a couple of hours by train?

Mr. Karrit and I were in Eastbourne last Saturday for the Women's Tennis matches.  It was a little over an hour from Clapham Junction.  We saw some nice looking hotels facing the sea.  It looks like it would be a bit more mellow than Brighton, and we are thinking of going back for a relaxing weekend later this summer.

Certainly quieter than Brighton...Eastbourne is regarded nowadays as Gods waiting room...nice pretty town though..
