Sorry, can't give much advice, I just sent a few boxes via the USPS.

Just wanted to say hope the move goes well! I moved from Florida to Essex nearly two years ago!

I too am in Florida looking for a shipping company. Harder to find than I thought it would be.

I used:  http://www.stevensworldwide.com/

They do whole household moves, but I only had a little bit of stuff in a storage unit so I just paid the minimum fee which was about $1500.  I could have probably got away cheaper by packing it myself & using UPS or UPakWeShip - but I'd been away from Tampa so long, was only back on vacation a short time & didn't have the time to pack it up properly so I just footed the bill to have the professionals do it.

You can get a free quote from them.  My move was Tampa to Leeds.  Good luck!

My I ask how long ago you moved your things over? I have a 10x15 storage space that is not full. $1500.00 seems reasonable to me.

Be sure to check out this website:

http://www.movingscam.com/

I've seen several threads here in which people get bids from each of the 4 recommended companies. We would have used Rainier, but had already contacted Dodge, and they are Ranier's local moving company, so we just went with Dodge. They are local to St Louis, but they were VERY friendly and professional. I even wrote an email to their boss saying how helpful and hard working the moving staff were.

Good luck on your move!

At the end of Nov 2007, I met the movers at my storage unit - where they packed up all my stuff & took it away.  Stevens sub-contracts to a local agent in Tampa for that part.  It was then moved up to - I think it was the Port of Baltimore.  A local agent here in England delivered it to my door in March 2008.  So not that long ago. :)  (though prices could have increased since Nov 2007 because of rising fuel costs :-\\\\)

I think I consulted that website that bch820 put up & asked for four different quotes.  Two companies couldn't be bothered to respond to me.  One quote was higher than the Stevens quote - can't remember the name of it.  And then the Stevens so I went with them.  Oh & I checked on UPakWeShip, I think, but it seemed that I'd have had to faff about with several trips in my rental car hauling it to their depot myself (Tampa traffic [smiley=bomb.gif]), plus I didn't want to spend all the time and money (for supplies) packing it up right myself.

Hope it helps!  If you know about how many cubic feet you have & the weight (which I didn't) - they'll know better how to quote you.  But if you're in Tampa now, I think they can arrange to meet you ahead of time, survey what you have & give you a better idea.  I was trying to coordinate things from over here, with only a short stop planned in Tampa, but it turned out alright - all the same.  Good luck. :)

I love my life here, but I sure miss Tampa Bay - the weather! :(
