Can you get birth control pills specifically to treat psoriasis, the same way that in the US you can get them to treat acne?

Not sure ?? I have a friend who gets birth control pills free for her acne in the UK, but not sure if they would give them free for psoriasis.

The cause of psoriasis is unknown, but it's believed to be a disorder of the immune system. The hormones in b/c that are used to treat acne would have no effect on psoriasis.

I have it on my scalp  , and it seems to have gotten worse since coming to live here . Back in Florida I used to wear my hair braided all the time therefore my scalp was exposed to the suns rays  , no medication or anything just a little olive oil here and there and a good shampoo . I'm not too keen on harsh medications so I'm now in the process of trying natural products from a site called little herbal international and I may try some light therapy .

well, i checked out that link about estrogen and psoriasis, but it said that progesterone didn't seem to have anything to do with improving the condition.  i thought progesterone was what was in BC pills, not estrogen... but i admit i have no idea... all i know is that i have taken various kinds of BC pills over the years, and none of them changed my condition at all... if someone else saw improvement while on the pill, please tell me what kind you took!!!?? i would love it if that worked for me...as i need to get back on the pill when i get to england anyway!

Let me know how the natural products work, please! I have no problem using chemicals, but they haven't worked for me, so I'm open to trying something new.

I think bc pills contain both progesterone and estrogen. But no doctor I've ever seen has recommended hormone treatment for my psoriasis. I wouldn't be willing to try that until there were some more conclusive results.  :-\\\\

BC pills generally have a combination of estrogen and progesterone. There are some progesterone-only pills. It depends on the pill.

ETA: I didn't take BC pills for psoriasis. I took them for exceptionally heavy periods. The fact that they temporarily cured my psoriasis was just a nice added bonus.

You were very lucky! I took them for 20 years and they had no effect on my psoriasis.  :(
