If you use the same passport here as you do on othersites, such as you email, I'd recommend changing it in both places.
Do you mean my password?

Thank you Leah!!
It did look very strange on here in the middle of the night, all red & black in a language I don't know.  Very strange!

Thanks, Leah!! I was so worried for all the hard work you put into the site that it would take a lot longer than a few hours to get it back up and too much would be lost. You definitely deserve a long soak in a tub.

It freaked me out!! I was making a post then went to edit it and it went all wonky.

I googled Sniper_Sa so many times and couldn't figure it out.

Anyway, thanks Leah! Great job fixing it! :D

Thanks Leah, job well done.  Putting corrupted data back together and restoring everything can be a real awkward job sometimes.   I think a soak in the tub is definitely well deserved.   :)

Thanks for sorting it out, Leah - I was worried that everything would be lost too.

I googled Sniper_Sa so many times and couldn't figure it out.

I did this too, although I only googled it twice before I gave up :). I guessed that something odd must have happened (i.e. a hacker) because I recognised/understood some of the weird red and black writing as UNIX/LINUX terminal code ::).

Quick question: now when I preview a reply before posting it, it shows as a different colour than before (a grey preview background rather than white) - is this just a new colour format, or is something wrong with it because of the corruption yesterday (I'm in the US, so it was last night/this morning for me)?

I grabbed a backup of the template to replace what they defaced, this may not have been the exact same, I'm planning to do a lot of work on the site next weekend so I'll leave any details like that until then. I've still got to do some server password changes just to be safe, and will disable the forum for a few minutes later tonight to do that otherwise you'll just get errors.

Last night and this morning, I logged into the forum and landed on the admin database page.  I really, really hope the site wasn't hacked because the page I saw had access to every password and all data for the site!  I know things were down for a while today but for quite a while last night, the entire database was open to anyone.

Ooops.. never mind.  Saw the other thread...  :-\\\\

Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

My husband (software engineer) googled the 'SnIpEr_SA' and did a little research.

FWIW, this is what he said:

They seem to specialise in code injections, which is a way to trick a web server into running malicious code. So they *might* have got a hold of people's email addresses that way. Just a possibility.

They also have a history of tricking people into downloading files from hacked web servers, so people's PCs could have been infected too. If they were using a browser with poor security features, like older versions of Internet Explorer. (Firefox should be fine).

Thanks Leah! :)

I think it was hacked, because when I checked, there was a little skull and crossbone in the corner that a lot of hackers use :(

It kind of upset me since I just joined yesterday and I twittered about how awesome the site was!  I hope I didn't bring along a hacker :/
