Forgive me if it is one you use, dear reader, but since starting my current job, I have been 'I know, right!'-ed to death. I have been there barely over a month, but the bulk of the summer help is 14-22, and they all say it every chance possible.

What does it mean?  I mean, what's the context of them saying it?  (Dont think i've heard this, and cant imagine how it's being used...)

It's an agreement to something someone has said, but it's phrased as a question.

For example:

Person 1: "It's so cold today. I'm freezing."

Person 2: "I know, right?"

See: :P

I was definitely guilty of the 'I know, right?' for a while. I actually remember the first time I said it and I didn't know where it came from or why I said it. It seems to have phased itself out for the most part, and I've found myself instead saying 'Yeah, seriously' (not much better) though every once in a while a 'I know, seriously' gets in there. I guess now I'm unconsciously creating hybrids.  :P I maintain that it's at least better than 'For reals'.

And that video!  :D

I've always found "STOP THE INSANITY" to be annoying...until this BBC thread started.  Now, every time I read a new comment (I can't help myself), this woman's voice screams this phrase in my head   [smiley=argue.gif]

I still use "I know, right?", much to DH's chagrin. I use it less now, but it pops out without me even thinking about it. I actually like it, I'm afraid to say. /me dodges rotten tomatoes.

I was on the phone to someone at our client's today, walking him through some features of the website. I directed him to a particularly useful feature, and he said in his rather posh voice 'oh well that's quite handy isn't it! Someone's put a lot of work into this!' And then there's me: 'Riiight?' Oy.... :P

"Does what it says on the tin"

and

"I was seeing a man about a dog"

I know what they mean, but don't know why, those two just really irritate me!

Purpose built. I am sure I have moaned about it before, but here I go again. Of course it is a purpose built stadium, shopping mall, house, etc. It isn't like someone is going to build a stadium and hope someone will some day think about using it for sports, a shopping complex, or some other fantastic idea.

I cant stand the expression "Donkey's Years" and "tricksy" instead of the word tricky.

The irony is that these buildings may not be purpose built for some, considering access issues for many disabled people!  ::)
