My nineteen year old is in the US this summer and everything is AWESOME.  It makes us laugh.

It's funny now, but how funny will it be when she's back home and you are surrounded by AWESOMENESS?

And the incorrect use of the word "literally"

... an often-annoying colleague said the other day "It was so windy I literally died of cold waiting for the bus", and I said "How come you're here telling me about it?" I got a blank look followed by a glare.

"Ta" makes me crazy.
Me too.  Followed by "da" as in "ta da", which I often hear people end conversations with.

To me, the only acceptable instance for saying "ta da" is in the context of also saying "abracadabra" which is never the context I hear it in, hence it drives me slightly mad....

The ones that annoy me most are when people say expressions wrong.  The one that makes me cringe the most?

"I couldn't be asked."

 [smiley=bomb.gif]

Sorry, is that in reference to not being "arsed" about something, as in "I couldn't care less"

If so, that drives me crazy.  Bragging about being lazy and indifferent to something... does not impress!!!

I don't mind "I couldn't be arsed" at all! In fact, there are so many things I can't be arsed to do, that I've lost count! It's not bragging, but just stating a fact. I'm not proud of it, but there you go.  :-\\\\

I think AbbyNormal was saying that she gets annoyed by people who use the phrase incorrectly.

I am fed up with people saying "no problem" when I thank them. What's wrong with "you're welcome"?

Yes, that's what I meant - the substitution of "asked" for "arsed".

I don't really look at the phrase as bragging, although I suppose that some people could use it that way.  I tend to use it as a declaration of defeat, as in "I was going to dust the bookshelves after I cleaned the living room, but I just couldn't be arsed."  Definitely not something I'm bragging about!

I hate it when waiters/waitress in the US come to your table and ask, "Are you all set?" All set? All set for what? What the hell does that mean??

I say couldn't be asked.  It's like my pg version for my parents.

I also say no problem.   :-X

Not really an expression, but my pet peeve is when people use bigger words to say something, when smaller ones might do better.  It just feels like the person is showing off to me.

I actually think its awesome that you guys are all set to take this question literally, but I have pre-thought about this and I think it would be too much information if I pushed the envelope and at the end of the day while it's fair enough everyone else is doing it, and are happy as Larry to be doing so, well, bob's your uncle, there it is, ta da, I just couldn't be asked nor arsed to come up with my own annoying phrase because to be honest I could not care less, I mean I could care less, yeah? Ah, bless.

SHUT UP! That is so not funny. It's awesome.

A'right? No problems, mate. Ta.

The word 'Blatantly' used to really annoy me because one of my school friends would say it about 5 times per paragraph every time she spoke! (I vividly remember her 'School Captain' campaign speech involved about 10 uses of 'blatantly').

Me too.  Followed by "da" as in "ta da", which I often hear people end conversations with.

To me, the only acceptable instance for saying "ta da" is in the context of also saying "abracadabra" which is never the context I hear it in, hence it drives me slightly mad....

I was about to reply that I think they're saying 'Ta-ra', not 'Ta-da', but then I looked it up and found that 'Ta-ra' is a northwest England/Wales phrase and 'Ta-da' is a West Country phrase... which is strange because I grew up in the West Country and I've never heard anyone say 'Ta-da' before (only 'Ta-ra')  :P!

"Fair enough."

That used to really bother me as well (It sounds so dismissive!), but I'm not quite as irritated by it now as I once was.

I don't get really annoyed by any expressions anymore, but the misuse of 'literally' does irk me a bit, as does the misuse of reflexive pronouns.  'I'll give my number to yourself, and if you have any problems, you can contact myself.'  :P
